Peter Barry Biography

Hello!

Continuing with our "Living Spaces" series, we have a new poet for you, Professor Peter Barry.

Below is the biography for him. Stay tuned for his first excerpt.

Enjoy!

Peter Barry was born and brought up in Liverpool and studied at Upholland College (in Lancashire), and later at King’s College London and at London University’s Institute of United States Studies. Apart from student jobs as a temporary postman and as Freezer Man in a frozen food factory, the only work he has ever done is teaching English (in schools, colleges, and universities). He has been at Aber for seventeen years (so far) and is Professor of English. He edited English (the journal of the English Association) for twenty years and is an active member of the Aberystwyth Poetry Workshop. Over the past few years he has published poems in Poetry Wales, New Welsh Review, Stand, and in the sequences anthology Kaleidoscope from Cinnamon Press. His best-known book is Beginning Theory (3rd edition, 2007) which has sold over 200,000 copies and has been translated into Korean, Ukrainian, and Hebrew (plus at least two pirated editions). A second edition of his English in Practice will be published by Bloomsbury later in 2013, and a new book called Reading Poetry appears in the Autumn. During the past few years he has lectured in Germany, Romania, Holland, Switzerland, the United States - and England.
